New Local Senior Living Community Offers Complete Continuum of Care


Brookdale Senior Living, one of the largest owner and operator of senior living communities, is set to open The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park to serve the needs of those in the greater Kansa City metro area. The new community will offer 100 rehabilitation and skilled nursing center suites, 40 Alzheimer’s/dementia care apartment homes and 40 personalized assisted living apartment homes.

"The Sweet Life name has become synonymous with excellence in senior living services during the past six years at our original rehabilitation and skilled nursing location, the Sweet Life Rosehill," said Kari Schmidt, divisional vice president of operations for Brookdale Senior Living. "Building on that tradition of excellence, The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park was developed to provide an additional convenient location in the Overland Park area."

In the Kansas City area, Brookdale Senior Living provides more than 1,700 apartment homes and suites in nine campus locations.  With The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park conveniently located near other Brookdale communities, a continuum of care for older adults in the greater Kansas City metro area has been accomplished.

The continuum of care offers the following:

  • Independent living at The Grand Court Overland Park, The Grand Court Kansas City, Town Village Leawood, and Foxwood Springs, offer individuals a variety of apartment home selections.

  • Personalized assisted living features personalized care for those who need assistance with tasks of daily living. Trained caregivers and associates provide assistance with dressing, bathing, medication management and reminders for meals and activities. The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park offers two stories of studio and one bedroom aprtments homes. Residents and visitors will enjoy a wine cellar with a private room for celebrations, a movie theater with surround sound, a craft area, a rehabilitation area, sun rooms and an intimate and home-like atmosphere. Other Brookdale personalized assisted living communities include Freedom Pointe Overland Park, Foxwood Springs, and The Sweet Life Rosehill.

  • Clare Bridge at The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park is a community to enhance the quality of life for residents with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. The associates include licensed nurses in the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A Central Village offers a diner, a beauty shop, a spa, rehabilitation, courtyards off the dining area, and life skill stations. Other Clare Bridge programs in the greater Kansas City metro area include Clare Bridge Leawood, The Sweet Life Shawnee, and Foxwood Springs.

  • Rehabilitation and skilled nursing services focus on respect, innovation and choice. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are offered by Brookdale’s Innovative Senior CareSM team. Whether at the community for a brief respite visit, for short-term rehabilitation services or for an extended stay, it will be easy to understand why ‘"Our People Make the Difference." The community project has local ties throughout the building process. Ad Astra Development of Olathe, Kan. is the developer. The relationship with Ad Astra began with the two Sweet Life communities in Shawnee, Kan., Sweet Life Rosehill and Sweet Life Shawnee. As a matter of fact, one of the principals of Ad Astra is Mark Parkinson, current governor of Kansas.

Ad Astra chose the architect and contractor for the project. The architect is Peckham Guyton Albers & Viets, Inc. (aka PGAV) from Westwood, Kan., and the contractor is Haren Laughlin from Lenexa, Kan. In addition, virtually all the consultants and subcontractors are also local to the Kansas City area.

The Sweet Life at Grand Court Overland Park is scheduled to open for move-ins in November 2009. A Grand Opening Open House is scheduled Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4-7 p.m., and welcomes the public to attend. To RSVP, call 913-663-2888.
