Smitty's New York Wish
Clarence Joseph Weldon Smith, Jr., more commonly known as "Smitty", is a kind and generous 89-year-old currently residing at the Wellington Place of Hixson in Tennessee. His Wish of a Lifetime was to visit the 9/11 Memorial and see the vacant space of the two towers he used to be so in awe of. FONT>
He worked many years as an engineer, mostly on bridges, tunnels, and skyscrapers. Smitty and his late wife loved to travel. They enjoyed seeing structures built around the nation, and were especially impressed with the twin towers in New York. It was their wish to see Ground Zero together. FONT>
Smitty was in the Army's construction battalion during World War II. He served in both the Philippines and Japan. After the service he became active in volunteering. Smitty was involved in the Lion's Club, AARP Club, Gideon's and his church. He is still very generous in donating his time to the community, and helps his fellow residents on a daily basis.
Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living flew Smitty and his son to New York on May 6th. They were able to visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, along with many other sights in New York.
