Iona Potts, resident of Statesville Manor, a Brookdale Senior Living assisted living community, recently had her wish granted to visit the beach for the first time in her life through Brookdale Senior Living and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime.
Although Potts grew up in North Carolina, she was never able to visit the beach because of her responsibilities at home. Potts spent her entire life caring for her parents on her family’s farm. She also provided company and meals to the elderly in her community.
On Monday, June 27, Potts made her first trip to the beach at age 82. Potts traveled to Carolina Beach in Wilmington, North Carolina with Joyce, a dear friend, and two close staff members from Statesville Manor.
"I never thought that it would be so big. I have seen it on t.v. and in books but they do not do it justice. I am so thankful I got to go."
Potts’ wish to travel to the beach was granted through Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime (JBWOL), a non-profit organization dedicated to granting life-enriching wishes to seniors. Brookdale Senior Living has sponsored this and many other wishes granted by JBWOL.
To request a wish, a Wish Application was filled out, explaining a dream to have fulfilled. Brookdale residents are encouraged to think about how their wish relates to one or more dimensions of Brookdale’s Optimum Life® platform. The six dimensions of Optimum Life are emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual and purposeful.
Brookdale’s Optimum Life® platform is geared toward cultivating whole-person wellness through fulfillment in the six key dimensions. Both Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime provide a helping hand in making some of the dreams of Brookdale’s residents come true. Residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide are invited to share and submit their wishes to JBWOL.
