Sharon Stiles, the executive director at Sterling House Shelby, a Brookdale Senior Living assisted living community, has been honored with a Hero Award from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA).
ALFA called for nominations of workers in the assisted living sector, including anyone who has shown extraordinary dedication, courage or leadership. In nominating Stiles, her community praises her for her dynamic leadership.
"She is always able to inspire all those around her and has worked relentlessly for the rights of seniors throughout her thirty-five year career," said Lindsey Albrecht, life enrichment coordinator for Sterling House Shelby. "Stiles is especially dedicated to our community’s wish program, in which we make the wishes of our residents’ come true."
According to staff members at Sterling House Shelby, Stiles’ dedication to seniors is unparalleled, and through supporting the wishes program at Sterling House, she is helping to change the way assisted living is viewed and prove that senior’s lives can be enriched in a positive way with new opportunities.
Within the nominating essay, Albrecht writes, "The leadership of Stiles has changed Sterling House for the better. Our residents have taken to trying new things and many have a changed outlook on what their senior years should be like. We have all learned to never stop trying and that we do have the power to change our seniors’ lives for the better."
Albrecht sums ups Stiles’ dedication and talent by writing, "She inspires each team member to give their best and then to give more. This has created a culture of caring at Sterling House which has resulted in the community winning Brookdale’s Culture of Caring Award, as well as being designated a Community of Wellness."
