Adams Returns from WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. with Lasting Memories
A special guest recently returned from Washington, D.C. with a dream fulfilled. Clella Adams, resident of Bradford Village, a Brookdale Senior Living managed continuing care retirement community in Edmond, Okla., won an Experience of a Lifetime and has fulfilled her deceased husband’s wish of seeing the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. "The trip was very special; truly wonderful," said Adams. "It was very emotional for me." Adams was joined on the trip by her two sons. "Mom, my brother and I had a wonderful time," said Kevin Adams. "The visit to the Memorial was emotional and memorable, and represented a way for us to honor our Dad and the many men and women who won the privileges we enjoy today."
"The boys are six years apart, so this gave them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bond together without any interruptions," said Adams. "This trip meant a lot to my family and me."
Adams won this opportunity through Brookdale’s Experiences of a Lifetime program. Residents at selected Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide were given the opportunity to share and submit their wishes as part of a program called Experiences of a Lifetime. They filled out a survey form explaining an experience they would like to have fulfilled, and how that related to one or more dimensions of the company’s Optimum Life® concept, which is geared toward cultivating whole-person wellness through fulfillment in six key dimensions: physical, emotional, purposeful, social, spiritual, and intellectual. The company collected their dreams and will provide a helping hand in making some of these goals come true.
"We are honored to make Clella’s wish come true," said Sara Terry, vice president of Optimum Life® for Brookdale Senior Living. "Having all the dimensions of Optimum Life so powerfully depicted within a resident and their family is awe-inspiring and inspirational."
A military family, Adams’ husband served the country in the Navy from 1940-1960. During this time he saw action in WWII and the Korean War. Her oldest son followed in his father’s footsteps and served as a Lieutenant in the Navy from 1968-1974. Adams’ youngest son retired as a Chaplain Colonel in the Air Force, serving from 1970-2000.
