Brookdale Surpasses Fundraising Goal for Alzheimer’s Association; Commits to Platinum National Team

Nashville 6/8/2009

Brookdale Senior Living, a leading owner and provider of high-quality senior living communities, is pleased to announce it has exceeded the company-wide goal to raise $400,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. At final count, the Alzheimer’s Association received $480,000 through Brookdale Senior Living fundraising efforts and local sponsorship of Memory Walks from May 2008-April 2009.

In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for Memory Walk. This year and 2008 represents the company more than doubling its fundraising success.

"We are extremely proud and overwhelmed by the dedication and commitment of our associates. Their creativity and hard work has allowed us to make a contribution that exceeded our expectations, and will no doubt make a huge difference for individuals and families impacted by this disease," said Bill Sheriff, chief executive officer of Brookdale.

"The Alzheimer’s Association would like to thank Brookdale for all of its outstanding work as a Memory Walk National Team in 2008," said Angela Geiger, Chief Strategy Officer for the Alzheimer’s Association. "The outstanding efforts by Brookdale associates to raise more than $480,000 will impact the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease in local communities, while also funding critically needed research that will one day lead to a world without Alzheimer’s."

In addition, Brookdale announces its commitment to support the Alzheimer’s Association as a Platinum National Team for Memory Walk 2009. Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Brookdale has pledged to raise at least $400,000 again this year, and the company hopes to exceed the amount, even during this year of economic challenges.

The company’s Clare Bridge communities focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. These and other select communities offer secured environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure Daily Moments of Success for residents of Brookdale communities.

"As one of the nation’s leading providers of Alzheimer’s and dementia care, we feel the impact and see the effects of this disease on our residents, their families, and our associates every day," said Sheriff. "We are energized to do whatever we can to raise awareness and funds to help treat and eradicate this disease."
