Recently, Wynwood Rogue Valley, a Brookdale Senior Living assisted living community, celebrated the wedding of two residents, Don Martin and Carol Willsey.
The couple met at a Wynwood Rogue Valley community outing. Willsey has some health issues and is unable to speak. Martin, however, was able to get to know Willsey by having her write to him on a pad of paper.
"The moment I first saw her, I knew there was something special about her. She was lovely," said Martin.
The newlyweds were married in the back lawn of Wynwood Rogue Valley, with a reception off site. Willsey worked with a physical therapist for three months in order to be able to stand up out of her wheelchair and walk down the aisle to her groom. Martin’s daughter, a minister, officiated the ceremony. His second daughter read a poem aloud during the service. The couple plan to go on a Hawaiian cruise for their honeymoon in January.
