Cynthia Perry of Carolina House Wake Forest, a Brookdale Senior Living assisted living community in Wake Forest, N.C., has been chosen Caregiver of the Year by the North Carolina Assisted Living Association (NCALA). She was chosen from more than 40 applicants.
The NCALA called for nominations of hands-on caregivers in the assisted living sector. In nominating Perry, Debra Warren, the executive director of Carolina House of Wake Forest said, "you will not find a more deserving caregiver."
Perry has been a resident care associate at Carolina House Wake Forest for 10 years. In her nomination letter, Warren says of Perry, "She steps up to the plate wherever she is needed, never saying, ‘It’s not my job.’"
"She finds it a joy to walk in this building every day and serve the residents," said Warren. "She always goes the extra mile and expects nothing in return."
When asked what are three things Perry loves most about being a caregiver, she said, "The most important thing is caring for my residents, becoming part of the family, and seeing them smile."
"I just love helping people who need a little help in life," said Perry. "I am so honored to win this award."
NCALA oversees the operations and legislation for all assisted living communities in North Carolina.
