Associates of Brookdale Senior Living are embracing the Alzheimer’s Associations’ challenge to "be on the move to end Alzheimer’s," and have raised funds, brought residents of its local memory care community to help at the Walk, recruited participants and raised more funds than ever to support the cause. So far, the Milwaukee office alone has donated more than $40,000.
The Southeastern Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association 2008 Memory Walk was held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Mount Mary College. During the event, Brookdale Senior Living’s Clare Bridge of Brookfield residents and staff handed out apples to walkers at the half-way point.
"Brookdale Senior Living is one of the nation’s leading providers of Alzheimer’s and dementia care," said Mark Ohlendorf, co-president of Brookdale Senior Living. "We are dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents who have Alzheimer’s, and are energized to do whatever we can to raise awareness and funds to help treat and eradicate this terrible disease."
To prepare for the walk, the Milwaukee office of Brookdale Senior Living, located at Summit Place in West Allis, conducted unique fundraisers to raise money for the Walk. Selling casual day stickers, holding penny wars between departments, having cook-outs and pancake breakfasts, conducting a book sale and cake walk and selling various sweet treats are just some of the creative ideas the office hosted this year.
"I am proud to see such creativity and a strong commitment from our associates," said Ohlendorf. "Seeing everyone help out and come together to support this worthy cause is a true testament to the amount of care and passion each person dedicates to the industry."
The other corporate offices of Brookdale Senior Living, located in Chicago and Nashville, are participating in local Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks as well.
Brookdale Senior Living is a Platinum National Team for Memory Walk 2008. The company has pledged to raise at least $400,000 in this year’s campaign. In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for the Memory Walk.
Brookdale Senior Living communities provide programs and services that focus on maximizing quality of life for seniors at any stage in life, including independent living, assisted living, and supportive services such as rehabilitation, Alzheimer’s/dementia care, skilled nursing and more.
Clare Bridge communities of Brookdale Senior Living focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Clare Bridges and other select communities offer secured environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure daily moments of success for residents.
