Associates of Brookdale Senior Living recently embraced the Alzheimer’s Associations’ challenge to “take steps to end Alzheimer’s.”
On Sept. 14 at 9 a.m., participants gathered by the Chicago lakefront to participate in the 3.2 mile Memory Walk to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
“There was a lot of rain and howling winds,” said Guy Geller, director of strategic operations for Brookdale Senior Living. “But, the Brookdale team and fellow participants would not let it rain on their parade and braved the storm.”
With offices in Milwaukee and Nashville as well, Brookdale’s Chicago office alone contributed nearly $12,000 to this year’s fundraising campaign. Approximately a dozen Brookdale associates, plus family members and friends walked during the Chicago Memory Walk.
The Chicago office of Brookdale Senior Living, located on Wabash Avenue, conducted very successful fundraising events, including selling stickers to associates to dress casual for the cause. The associates also conducted a raffle with locally donated items. Money was raised through individual and vendor donations as well.
The Chicago area has additional walks that have not occurred, from Bloomington to Springfield. Many Illinois area Brookdale communities have a presence in these walks, too.
“Brookdale Senior Living is one of the nation’s leading providers of Alzheimer’s and dementia care,” said Geller. “We are dedicated to the care we provide our residents who have Alzheimer’s, and are committed to do whatever we can to raise awareness and funds to help treat and find a cure for this disease.”
Brookdale Senior Living is a Platinum National Team for Memory Walk 2008. Brookdale has pledged to raise at least $400,000 in this year’s campaign. In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for Memory Walk.
The company’s Clare Bridge communities focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. These and other select communities offer secured environments and programs for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, in which trained staff provide memory care services and help ensure Daily Moments of Success for residents of Brookdale communities.
