Brookdale Senior Living Wins Two of ALFA’s Prestigious Best of the Best Award

NASHVILLE, TN 3/24/2011

Brookdale Senior Living is pleased to announce it has won two of ALFA's 2011 Best of the Best Awards in the categories of Resident Dining Experience and Human Resources and Staff Developement. This national award honors programs that demonstrate innovative operational excellence and a commitment to the future of senior living.

The onsite wellness clinics won in the Human Resources and Staff Development category, and provide free medical care and generic prescriptions to associates and their covered dependents enrolled in a Brookdale medical plan. The clinics are located in some of Brookdale’s large continuing care retirement communities, and are also accessible to associates at surrounding communities.

Ultimate Chef America, the winner in the Resident Dining Experience category, were dynamic culinary competitions among the professional chefs of Brookdale Senior Living held across the nation.

The events highlighted healthy cooking and wellness for older adults. During the culinary cook-offs, chefs competed for the chance to win the "Ultimate Chef America" title by competing in teams and preparing four entrees – a starter, a side, an entrée, and a dessert using heart-healthy ingredients and only a grill in a two-hour period of time. In addition, the events held silent auctions to benefit The Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, featured celebrity guest judges and offered gourmet tastings.

ALFA’s Fifth Annual Best of the Best Award has expanded from previous years. The award received 140 nominations, a record number of submissions, and for the first time allied members, members of ALFA who do not manage or operate a senior living residence, were able to win the much coveted award.

"We have the honor to spread the good news about remarkable resident-centered programs fulfilling every aspect of senior-living operations, from wellness services to staff development," said Rick Grimes, president and CEO of ALFA. "All of this year’s entries speak to the high standard of innovation and professionalism among our members and demonstrate their resourcefulness and ingenuity."
